Lakes & Mountains
Lakes & Mountains – easy, feel-good holidays
There’s something about lakes and mountains that just works. You don’t need a packed plan — it’s more about fresh air, nice views, and days that just fall into place.
The classic European lakes trip
Lake Garda, Lake Como, Lake Bled… these are the easy wins.
Wander little towns, stop for a drink by the water, maybe hop on a boat. Nothing rushed, nothing complicated.
Feels like: warm, pretty, and very relaxed
Switzerland – mountains but make it smooth
Switzerland is one of those places where everything just… works.
Trains run on time, cable cars take you straight up to insane views, and everywhere you look feels like a screensaver. You can be as active as you want, or just sit somewhere nice and take it all in.
Winter is all snow and ski vibes, summer is lakes, walks, and fresh air.
What it feels like: easy, calm, and quietly impressive
Canada – when you want it to feel big
Canada is like lakes and mountains turned up to full volume.
Places like Banff and Lake Louise don’t look real half the time — bright blue lakes, huge mountains, and space for days. It’s really good for a road trip because the drives are just as good as the places you stop.
It’s the kind of trip where you keep thinking “this can’t get better” — and then it does.
What it feels like: big, fresh, and a bit mind-blowing
Norway & Scandinavia – slower, quieter, a bit different
If you want something a bit less “busy resort” and more peaceful, this is a really good option.
Norway especially is all about fjords, mountains, waterfalls — but without crowds everywhere. You can drive it, take ferries, or even do a cruise through the fjords.
It’s not flashy, it’s just really, really beautiful.
What it feels like: calm, quiet, and properly switch-off
Austria – easy-going and underrated
Austria doesn’t always get shouted about, but it’s such a good option.
Places like Zell am See give you that mix of lake + mountains + a nice town where everything feels friendly and relaxed. You can walk, cycle, swim, or just sit by the water doing nothing much at all.
It’s the kind of place that just feels comfortable straight away.
What it feels like: relaxed, welcoming, and easy to settle into
Italy’s lakes – same vibe, bit more glam
If you like the lakes idea but want it to feel a bit more special, northern Italy is perfect.
Lake Como especially has that slightly dressed-up feel — nice hotels, long dinners, a bit of people-watching. You’re still doing the same kind of holiday, just with better wine and slightly later evenings.
What it feels like: romantic, stylish, but still very relaxed
Doing it from the water (without it being “a cruise cruise”)
You don’t have to be fully on a cruise to enjoy lakes and mountains from the water.
Boat trips on the Italian lakes, scenic ferries in Norway, or even train + boat combos in Switzerland — it’s one of the nicest ways to see everything without constantly moving around yourself.
You just sit back and let the views do their thing.
What it feels like: easy, scenic, no effort required
The main thing
These trips aren’t about doing loads.
They’re about:
- wandering
- stopping when it looks nice
